Weekly Honors Continue to Roll in for WCU's Jeremy Null
Junior RHP recognized by NCAA and NCBWA for his season-opening performance
2001: Ended the season as Western's and the SoCon's top hitter, despite being shuffled up and down the batting order ... Ended the regular season with a career-best, 21-game hitting streak, which was two games shy of the school record ... Streak ended with an 0-for-4 outing with a walk versus UNC Greensboro in the first round of the SoCon Championship ... He did collect a hit in the second game of the tournament ... During the streak, had 14 multi-hit games and batted .433 (39-for-90), raising his batting average almost 100 points ... Hit six home runs with 23 RBI and 24 runs scored ... Went 2-for-3 with a HR and a career-high five RBI vs. East Tennessee State (4/13) ... Was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored at UNC Asheville (4/18) ... Was 2-for-3 with a HR, at Furman (4/21) ... Blasted two home runs in game two of doubleheader versus North Carolina A&T, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored in the contest ... At nationally-ranked Georgia, was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases ... Played a key role in win at UNC Asheville (5/2), accounting for four of WCU's five runs by driving in three and scoring once ... Was 2-for-5 in each of the Davidson games with two doubles and a home run ... Was 5-for-11 in the VMI series with a home run, three RBI and six runs scored ... Scored two key runs in the season finale. One, scoring from second on a sac fly and two, the game winner in the top of the ninth ... Got off to a slow start, going hitless in his first five games and 16 total at bats ... Part his slow start was due to a right quadricep strain, forcing him out of the season opener at Auburn ... After that, he batted .380 (70-for-184), including an 0-for-12 spell prior to his 21-game hit streak ... Collected three hits versus: Tennessee (3/27), App State (4/1), UNC Asheville (4/18) North Carolina A&T (4/29), UNC Asheville (5/2) and VMI (5/12).
2000: Redshirted ... Started the first five games of the season before missing the season with an enlarged spleen from a bout with mononucleosis ... Had three hits in 18 plate appearances.
PRIOR TO WCU: Started 46 games at shortstop for the University of Indiana as a sophomore (1999), batting .293 ... Had 20 RBI and was 6-of-8 in the stolen base department, while leading the team with 122 assists ... As a freshman, played in 45 games, starting 41 ... Was second on the team in assists (114) and committed just three errors in 173 chances ... An Academic All-Big 10 honoree.
HIGH SCHOOL: Honorable Mention All-American as a senior ... Named to the All-Susquehanna Valley 2A Conference team ... 1996 Lewisburg High School Male Athlete of the Year ... Led his team to the district finals as a sophomore ... Played for head coach Tim Fausnaught ... Played point guard on the varsity basketball team four years ... Second team all-conference guard in 1996 ... Three-year letterman in golf ... Member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society ... Named school's Academic Athlete of the Year.
